First, take in the whole picture
Listen from beginning to end without trying to analyze everything. Note a color, a scene or a moment that moves you. You do not need technical vocabulary to have something meaningful to say about a song.
Next, follow the voices
Focus on delivery, breaths and layered vocals. Try listening once with the lyrics and once without them. Notice which details become more prominent each time.
Finally, listen to the spaces
Pay attention to the rhythm behind the vocals, a brief pause, or a small sound that leads into the next section. Save a timestamp and share discoveries with a friend. There is more than one way into the same song.
